The Bullies at Million Mom's March are at it Again
Posted by Zman
Looks like the busy bodies at Million Mom's March think they can tell TV networks what programming they can show
The New Norman Million Mom's March Boycotts New NBC sitcom.
From the article.
"NBC is using public airwaves to continue to subject families to the decay of morals and values, and the sanctity of marriage in attempting to redefine marriage. These things are harmful to our society, and this program is damaging to our culture."
Fist off they are a TV network and can show what ever they want with in FCC guidelines. NBC or any other network is not required to support or encourage any type of values. Not sure how they are attempting to redefine marriage simply by showing a sitcom. that argument makes no sense. Don't like it don't watch it. Also how is this program harmful to our culture. If they mean harmful to the culture of hate and bigotry then that is a good thing.
Also from the article.
"Millions of Americans strongly believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman. NBC's "The New Normal" is attempting to desensitize America and our children. It is the opposite of how families are designed and created. You cannot recreate the biological wheel."
Millions of Americans might believe that but that does not make them right and thankfully that attitude is changing. At one time Millions of Americans thought women should not vote and slavery was OK, and later separate but equal bathrooms for black people were acceptable. So to say "millions of Americans" think something is not a valid reason.
Another point is to suggest that it is somehow harmful to children is also silly and an argument I think most Americans just don't buy. How is it harmful to teach chldren to respect others and treat them right. Oh wait, that's something Christ might have done and we can't have that now can we. As far as "reinventing the biological wheel, homosexuality is found in some 450 species, so it sounds like biology is on the side of homosexuality. also it is a TV show, they are not trying to reinvent anything. It's about time we show these groups they don't have the right to bully companies and TV networks. contact the Million Mom's March and tell them they need to stop pushing their outdated homophobic ideas on everyone and stop being such busy bodies. Then contact the advertisers of this show and tell them you support them and you hope they will support this show and not vgive in to the small few who think they can bully everyone else.
From the article
"OMM is prepared to contact any and all sponsors of this program if it is aired. It is proven this strategy works"
They might want to check that statement because it clearly does not. The facts show that most people don't pay attention to the silliness of Million Mom's March.
Thankfully the attitude about same sex marriage is changing and soon groups like Million Mom's March will be a thing of the past relegated to the history books and laughed about.

Republican Horrified to Learn Christianity is not the only Religion
Let me introduce you to the dumbest person in America.
Republican Horrified to Learn school vouchers cover all religious Schools.
Some quotes from the article linked above.
"I actually support funding for teaching the fundamentals of America's Founding Fathers' religion, which is Christianity, in public schools or private schools. I liked the idea of giving parents the option of sending their children to a public school or a Christian school."
It is pretty sad to think that someone in congress is this dumb.
"We need to insure that it does not open the door to fund radical Islam schools. There are a thousand Muslim schools that have sprung up recently. I do not support using public funds for teaching Islam anywhere here in Louisiana."
I'd like to know where she got this number from. Hate to break this to her but if your going to have school vouchers for one religious school you have to allow them for all. Also to call all Muslims radical shows just how racist she really is. We need to get people like this out of office. I hope she gets raked over the coals for this.

How to Keep your Dog Safe on the Fourth Of July
Received this in an email today and thought I'd pass it along. (finally an email forward that is useful LOL)
Here are some things to do to make sure your pets are happy during the 4th of July weekend.
• Resist the urge to take your pet to fireworks displays.
• Do not leave your pet in the car. With only hot air to breathe inside a car, your pet can suffer serious health effects—even death—in a few short minutes. Partially opened windows do not provide sufficient air, but they do provide an opportunity for your pet to be stolen.
• Keep your pets indoors at home in a sheltered, quiet area. Some animals can become destructive when frightened, so be sure that you’ve removed any items that your pet could destroy or that would be harmful to your pet if chewed. Leave a television or radio playing at normal volume to keep him company while you’re attending Fourth of July picnics, parades, and other celebrations.
• If you know that your pet is seriously distressed by loud noises like thunder, consult with your veterinarian before July 4th for ways to help alleviate the fear and anxiety he or she will experience during fireworks displays.
• Never leave pets outside unattended, even in a fenced yard or on a chain. In their fear, pets who normally wouldn’t leave the yard may escape and become lost, or become entangled in their chain, risking injury or death.
• Make sure your pets are wearing CURRENT/UPDATED identification tags so that if they do become lost, they can be returned promptly. Animals found running at-large should be taken to the local animal shelter, where they will have the best chance of being reunited with their owners.
• If you plan to go away for the holiday weekend and take you pet, PLEASE make sure to be EXTRA careful. Your canine friend will not know where they are if they escape. Best to leave at home with a responsible dog sitter that understands the above rules or in a reputable boarding facility.

A Great Response to those who want to boycott Oreo Cookies for their support of Gay Rights
Posted by Zman
Don't know who wrote this but it is a very well written response to those anti gay boycott obsessed homophobes who are threatening to boycott Oreo cookies due to their support of gay rights.
"Yes, please boycott Oreo for their support of Gay Rights. We’ll all appreciate you going on a diet. While you’re at it, please also throw away your iPod, iPhone, and iPad since Apple supports as well. Hopefully you have lots of clothes, because you’ll need to ditch your Levi’s and Nike’s too. Perhaps you bought them at JC Penney’s or Sears? Sucks you’ll have to take them back or actually, anything you wear from anywhere probably had a gay involved. Flying somewhere soon? Better not be on American, Delta, Southwest, or United - you’ll need a new ticket. Airline wasn’t mentioned? Just be sure your jet isn’t Boeing made. Don’t sleep at Marriott or Hilton (or any of their family brands) because you might catch the gays they support. That morning coffee from Starbucks will have to go as well, go ahead and replace it with a McCafe. Oh wait, McDonald’s supports gay rights too. Hmm, do you clean with Tide, Gain, or Bounty? Use Duracell batteries, shave with Gillette, or use Fixodent? Brush with Crest, use Pantene, Scope, Tampax, Venus, or Old Spice products? Those are all gone too, stupid Proctor & Gamble supporting the gays. Damn, you’re using Internet Explorer or Chrome to see Facebook and read this status? Download something else, Microsoft and Google show their Pride as well. Ah, but your drinks are safe. Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Budweiser are on your side - if your side is on the right side of history since all three also support Gay Rights. Hopefully, you or your lawyer will never need in-depth research. Both LexisNexis and Westlaw, who together control the market, support Gay Rights. Drive that big, manly, Ford F350? It’s a "Friend of Dorothy" too, as its company Ford and General Motors also support the rights of all. So, do us all a favor, don’t take it all out on a festive cookie - just stay home and boycott everything." (Unknown)
I wish we knew who wrote this because it sums it up quite well.

Back in my day, The Cave Man version
Posted by Zman
If you read some peoples posts on Facebook or even hear them talk you'd get the impression that back in "their day" all kids were beaten with belts when they misbehaved, no kid was allowed indoors during daylight hours, All moms voices could be heard for miles and miles calling their kids to come home at night, and all kids were very well behaved and no one ever dissagreed with their parents. Seems to me that some people view the past with selective memory. It got me to thinking how would a caveman write a back in my day story. Here's how I think it wold go.
You know kids have it so good today, back in my day we didn't have these new fangeld housed, we lived in caves and if the wind was blowing in you just got cold we din't need any freaking doors. and food, we couldn't just get in the car and go to the store, we had to kill our food with a spear and if you're aim was bad you just went hungry. If you wanted to go out with the girl in the cave next door you just went to her cave and conked her in the head and drug her away. We didn't have to bother with the formality of asking her out. and if you got sick you could not go to the doctor, you either got better or just dropped dead eventually and we liked it that way. Words, all we could do was grunt and snort. If you wanted to talk to the cave village down the road, we didn't have no fancy smancy can and string, you sent smoke signals and hoped the wind was out of the right direction. Things were so much better back then. Kids today have i9t so easy.
See how silly those back in my day stories are. The fact is the stuff in those back in my day posts are pretty far from the way things actually were. As we get older we tend to remember the past the way we wish it had been and not the way it really was.

Why do stores insist on having their over head music so loud
Posted by Zman
I don't know about you but one thing that irks me is when you walk in to a store or restaurant and they have the music so loud you can't hear yourself think. My wife went in to our local Staples and Menards on Tuesday and both paces had the music so loud my wife and I had to keep asking each other what the other one said and we were walking right next to each other. I wonder if businesses realize how annoying that is to their customers. Same goes for restaurants I can't tell you how many times we have gone out to eat and the music is so loud it is impossible to carry on a conversation and if you're out with a group, forget about hearing anyone else at the table. Also makes it hard to enjoy your meal when you have music blaring in your ear. Now I like loud music as much as the next person but when I'm out and I think most people will agree, music should be back ground. It should add to the experience not be so loud that you have to yell at the person next to you so they can hear you.

(Video) Child Preformes Anti Gay song in Church.
video here.
It is sad enough when people use their religion to spread hate. It is even worse when they have a child do it. Especially one who is too young to understand what they are singing about. Pure brain washing. Any god that would condone this kind of activity is not a god I'd choose to believe in. People who use religion to spread hate are the worst kind of biggots

Pet Population
Four million cats and dogs—about one every eight seconds—are put down in U.S. shelters each year. Often these animals are the offspring of cherished family pets. Spay/neuter is a proven way to reduce pet overpopulation, ensuring that every pet has a family to love them.
Many cats and dogs who die as a result of pet overpopulation could have made wonderful pets.
A solution is possible and starts with each of us taking one small step: getting our own pets spayed or neutered. To help stop pet overpopulation further, consider adopting your next pet from an animal shelter.

Spanking How it Can Backfire. My experience growing up being spanked.
Posted by Zman
A discussion on a Facebook group I belong to inspired this post. It was on the topic of weather spanking is abuse. Now I will say right off that I am against spanking as punishment. The harmful effects are well documented. It can lead to aggression, Anxiety and Depression among other problems. (I'll put some links at the end that give mroe detail of the harmful effects) . I can vouch for the aggression as that is what I learned from it. I'll explain. My sisters and I were spanked as children and not all that hard either. Just a few taps on the rear end. We were also slapped for mouthing off. What this taught me was that violence was a proper way to solve a problem. Here's what I mean. I'd get spanked for doing something my parents did not like so that taught me that if my sisters did something I did not like the right way to solve the problem was to hit them. That's all I learned from being spanked. It did not teach me right from wrong. As I got older my parents would threaten a spanking and my thought was that they really didn't have any other way to solve a problem than threatening a spanking? These people are not very smart. Also it caused me to lose respect for them not gain it. To me all spanking shows is a parent who has lost control. I know many people who raise their kids just fine without spanking them and most of them are far better behaved and show more respect to their parents than those children who are spanked. Heck, twenty three countries have even outlawed the practice and their kids seem to be doing just fine (some info below in the linked articles talk about this see the Spanking Fact and Fiction article) . If you're going to use spanking that is your choice but I think it back fires on parents more than it succeeds. I think it is a punishment who's time has passed.

Praying for People after a Disaster, Slacktivism?
Posted by Zman
A couple weeks ago I mentioned how people thank God when someone survives a natural disaster and said how I thought it did not make much sense. Along the same lines I also wonder when I hear people say they are " praying for the victims" if that is a case of slacktivism. Slacktivism is the act of thinking you are doing something when you are actually not doing anything. Like signing online petitions, thinking you're going to save some sick childs life by liking a Facebook post, etc. all forms of Slacktivism and praying for those who survive a disaster is no different. By sitting around praying for those who have survived a disaster or their families you really are not doing anything to help them. If you really want to help, send some money, volunteer to help in some way, donate some food, donate some blood or other supplies they will need to rebuild. If you're just sitting around prying for them you're really not doing anything to help. In this case, prayer is a form of slacktivism. So instead of just sitting around praying, get up and actually help in some useful way.

Don't forget about your child free friends when you have kids.
Posted by Zman
One thing about being child free that manhy of our child free friends notice is that when a friend has a child they tend to forget about us. They get so wrapped up in their kids lives that they forget they have friends without kids. We have a couple friends we have not seen or heard from except on Facebook sense their first child was born and now they have two of them. Do you think they ever call or want us to do anything, Nope. We belong to a child free group on Facebook and this is a common theme. People have kids and forget or abandon their friends who have chosen not to have kids. We are not sure what causes this to happen. Seems these "friends" gravitate to those friends tho have kids and ignore those friends who don't. Maybe it is time you gave that child free friend a call and did something with them. Leave the kid with the baby sitter and get out and have some fun with a friend who has not seen you sense you became a parent. Someday your kids will grwo up and move out and you may need those child free friends someday so don't let those friendships laps.

Something I hear after every disaster that I just find odd.
Posted by Zman
Have you ever noticed that after every natural disaster when someone miraculously survives you'll hear someone say, "Well, god must have been looking out for him or her." After the devastating tornadoes that hit the Midwest just over a week ago we heard this statement made by several people who narrowly escaped death.
I find the reasoning behind this statement very odd. I mean, why was god not looking after those who died. Why would a caring god decide only to save some people and let some die. The whole idea that god would be looking after certain people and that is why they escaped death by seconds just seems to defy any logic what so ever. Just does not seem like something a "loving caring god would do. If he were really looking out for people than there would have been no deaths.
You'll also hear this said after someone survives a horrific accident. Let's say you have a crash were four people were killed and one person somehow walks away unhurt. You'll h ear someone say, "well god must have been looking out for him or her." Really, what did god have against the other four? If he were really looking after them there would not have been a crash in the first place.
To me it is just the brains way of trying to put some order to things that have none. Things just happen and and people get lucky there is no explanation for why this happens.
A person is free to believe what they want and if it helps people cope with what ever life throws at you that's your choice to believe it, but to me the idea of a god choosing to have some people survive a disaster while others parish just does not make any sense. .

A person is free to believe what they want and if it helps people cope with what ever life throws at you that's your choice to believe it, but to me the idea of a god choosing to have some people survive a disaster while others parish just does not make any sense. .

Happy Holidays is Just a Greeting, Plain and Simple
Posted by Zman
Every year around this time we hear from people on Facebook or in the local paper who are "offended" because someone says Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. Now many of us see this as just plain silly. Happy Holidays is a greeting that covers all the holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year5s Day. Should not be that hard to figure this out yet some3 people act like you've killed someone if you dare say Happy Holidays. They apparently think Christmas is the only holiday we should pay attention too during this time of year. News flash to these people. Many holidays are celebrated in December besides Christmas. Christians don't own December. There were many winter celebrations this time of year long before Christianity came along and there's nothing wrong with including them. I recall Happy Holidays being said all the time when I was growing up in the 70's and 80's and no one made a big deal out of it. It has just been in the last ten years or so some folks who have a persecution complex have made it in to an issue. Some people I guess are not happy unless they feel they are being persecuted.
Also someone saying Happy Holidays does not take away from your celebrating Christmas. You can still say Marry Christmas and celebrate the holiday as you always have. It does not effect you or your celebration one bit so stop making a big deal out if it. It is a greeting plain and simple.
As far as stores like Walmart or other big box stores saying Happy Holidays, These stores serve the general public not just those of certain faiths. They can say Happy Holidays if they want and they should to be all inclusive. If you don't like it, don't shop there. I am more inclined to shop at a store that favors diversity and is inclusive. If you don't, fine shop somewhere else. Also the only reason big box stores mention a holiday is because they can make money off of it. That's it, plain and simple. Notice you never see many Thanksgiving sales at Walmat, Target, etc, because there is not much money to be made on those hoidays except for food. There is no law requiring a store to say Merry Christmas or any holiday for that matter. There is also no law saying they have to be closed Christmas. If they thought they could make money on Christmas they'd be open then too. A business has the right to say whatever they want this time of year. If you don't like it, don't shop there. The whole idea that someone could get offended by someone saying Happy Holidays just seems insane to me.

Picking apart one of those Dumb Back in My Day lists.
Posted by Zman
You've seen them in your inbox. Those back in my day lists that tell you how much "better" things were thirty some odd years ago. Well I thought I'd take one of these lists and pick it apart to show just how silly they really are. My responses to the list are in quotes after each item.
If you are 36, or older, you might think this is hilarious!
When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning.... Uphill... Barefoot... BOTH ways...yadda, yadda, yadda
And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on my kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!
But now that I'm over the ripe old age of forty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. They've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, They live in a virtual Utopia! And I hate to say it, but the kids today, don't know how good they 've got it!
1) I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have the Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!
"Someone obviously has a problem with being able to quickly look things up. Maybe the person who wrote this enjoys the old way but most of us like the fact that we can instantly look things up. Not sure why this person thinks this is a bad thing."
2) There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter - with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox, and it would take like a week to get there! Stamps were 10 cents!
"I guess this person did not have access to a phone. I can remember sense I was pretty little and I'm forty two that we had access to phones in our house. so no you did not need to send a letter. And if you did send a letter, it took a couple days to get there. 36 years ago we were using an inventions called trucks and air planes to get mail around much like today. We were no longer using the pony express."
3) Child Protective Services didn't care if our parents beat us. As a matter of fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to kick our behinds! Nowhere was safe!
"Yes because that was so much better. I guess this person sees nothing worn with child abuse?"
4) There were no MP3's or Napsters or iTunes! If you wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the record store and shoplift it yourself!
"So, what's this persons point, and I tunes is not stealing. I tunes is a legal downloading site. This person really has a problem with modern technology."
5) Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio, and the DJ would usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up! There were no CD players! We had tape decks in our car. We'd play our favorite tape and "eject" it when finished, and then the tape would come undone rendering it useless. Cause, hey, that's how we rolled, Baby! Dig?
"because being able to have CD's that last a long time is such a horrible advancement. Look technology advances get over it already."
6) We didn't have fancy stuff like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called, they got a busy signal, that's it!
"Because getting stuck not being able to get a hold of someone in an emergency was so much better."
7) There weren't any cell phones either. If you left the house, you just didn't make a call or receive one. You actually had to be out of touch with your "friends". OH MY GOSH !!! Think of the horror... not being in touch with someone 24/7!!! And then there's TEXTING. Yeah, right. Please!
You kids have no idea how annoying you are.
"Maybe not but we have a pretty good idea how annoying you are. and why is being able to get in touch with someone 24/7 a bad thing. Maybe you liked the day when you could not reach someone in an emergency but I kind of like the ability to do that. So how is this a bad thing. It's also not just kids using this technology. Mostt adults use it too. Get out of the rock your under and you might realize this."
8) And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your parents, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, the collection agent... you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!
"What is wrong with knowing who called?"
9) We didn't have any fancy PlayStation or Xbox video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids'. Your screen guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination!!! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen.. Forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!
"Video game technology advances like everything else, Go play your Arari 2066. I'll keep the great graffics of my x box."
10) You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your butt and walk over to the TV to change the channel!!! NO REMOTES!!! Oh, no, what's the world coming to?!?!
It's called progress, get over it." I used to read the old TV guide cover to cover but those days are over, get over it."
11) There was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying? We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons!
"Actually many TV stations ran cartoons during the week in the afternoons when you got out of school. Sounds like someone is using a little selective memory. Plus everyone nows the good cartoons are on Boomering not Cartoon Network."
12) And we didn't have microwaves. If we wanted to heat something up, we had to use the stove! Imagine that!
"And you can still use the stove it you want. No one is stopping you."
13) And our parents told us to stay outside and play... all day long. Oh, no, no electronics to soothe and comfort. And if you came back inside... you were doing chores!
"My parents never told us that." Maybe your parents realized how annoying you were and that's why they made you stay outside."
And car seats - oh, please! Mom threw you in the back seat and you hung on. If you were lucky, you got the "safety arm" across the chest at the last moment if she had to stop suddenly, and if your head hit the dashboard, well that was your fault for calling "shot gun" in the first place!
"Because the brain damage people received at the time was so much better. Probably explains why this person wrote this drivel. Brain damage could be the only explanation for writing this. and by the way, We did have car seats and wear our seat belts back then. I'm 42 and can always remember wearing a seat belt.
See! That's exactly what I'm talking about! the kids today have got it too easy. They're spoiled rotten! You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1970 or any time before!
Regards,
The Over 40 Crowd
"I can't think of anyone I know over forty who think like this. The person tho wrote this obiously has a problem with the fact that older is not better and I'm gguessing this person is well over forty."

My take on the "We Want a Cure for Tourette Syndrome posts on Facebook.
Posted by Zman
No doubt by now you have seen the Tourette Syndrome posts on Facebook. If you have not, I'll describe it to you. It is a picture of a green T shirt with the words, "We want a cure for Tourette Syndrome, When do we want it, C@#t" I won't type the full word but you get the idea. Basically it pokes fun at the uncontrollable swearing part of Tourette Synbdrome.
Now as someone who has Tourette Syndrome I'd like to point out that the swearing, or coprolalia is the rarest form of Tourette Syndrome but unfortunately gets the most publicity. Tourette Syndrome is a disorder effecting the nervous system that causes involuntary movements and sounds called tics. These take many forms. Now I do have involuntary vocalizations. Anyone who works with me has seen me walking around appearing to talk to myself. Now my co workers know I'm just blurting out random words and phrases. I do it at a whisper so you'd have to be standing almost next to me to hear it. I've been able to control the volume but of course can't control the vocalizations but I do not have the swearing problem. As I said, that part is very rare.
Along with the tics Tourette Syndrome can come along with other problems like OCD (obsessive Compulsive Disorder, ADHD, ADD,anxiety, depression, and other problems so it is more than just a swearing disease and should not be taken lightly. I wonder if the people posting this to Facebook would also post similar comments about other diseases and disorders like cancer or mental illness. I'm guessing probably not. They'd catch hell from most of their friends. Tourette Syndrome is no different. It should never be considered OK to poke fun at a disease or disorder It is no more appropriate to post these kinds of comments about Tourette Syndrome than it would be about any other disease or disorder. Those of us who live with Tourette Syndrome can tell you it is no picnic.
All this Facebook post shows is peoples ignorance, Instead of making fun of someones disorder or disability, why not take a few minutes and try to actually learn something about it.

Advice to parents on how silly you can look when holding on to the Apron Strings when your kids go off to collage.
Posted by Zman
Many of you might be getting ready to head off to collage this fall. Now for many this transiton will go smoothly. I’m not talking about just being on your own, I’m talking about the parents who have no trouble excepting the fact that their grwon children are moving on and will have their own lives. Many parents seem to make this transition well. However there are those that insist on holding on to the apron strings. They seem to think they can still tell their adult children how they can live while they are away at school. My parents fit in to this catagory. Now my parents are good people but they just had some issues with the apron strings when I left for collage.
A couple of the more silly examples of their attempts, First they tried to tell me what I could and could not buy with the money I made at my campus job. Really, they thought it was right to tell an adult who was twenty two a the time what he coud buy? I tried explaining to them on many occasions that is is rude to tell someone else how to spend the money they make themselves. They just never seemed to understand this fact. The real irritating part was they never tried this on my younger sisters. A point which I made to them several times. Of course never getting an answer so I found the best way to deal with this problem was just to smile and nod and do what I was going to do anyway. Telling your adult children how to spend the money they make themselves is just plain rude and bossy. You have no right as a partent to tell your adult child how to spend the money he makes. Period. Now if it is your parents money that is different but don’t let them tell you what you can and cannot buy wiht the money you make. Again, the best way to handle this is just to smile and nod. It’s your money like it or not there is nothing they can do about it as much as they might moan and complain. Another good way to handle the problem is to embarrass them. Tell all your relatives what your parents are doing. I did that too and that got them to knock it off.
Another amusing story, I paid my own phone bill on time every month. There was a family reunion that I was not able to attend back home. I aw sent a card signed by several people saying they were sorry they missed me. I called several people on the list thanking them for the card. My mom actaully called me at seven thirty in the morning telling me she did not like that I called people thankng them for the card and I’d better work more hours becaue I couldn’t afrord to make such calls and she’d make sure the phone was taken out of my dorm room if I kept doig that. I told her as long as I’m payaing my phone bill on time there realy is not a damn thing she can do about it and she has no idea what I can and cannot afford. After all I’m the one making my money, If I could not have afforded them I would not have made them. I don’t know what my mom was trying to accomplish by this but she made herself look kind of foolish and was another example to me and my friends that she was having a difficult time letting go of the apron strings. Again, the best way to handle things like this is just to smile and nod and do what you’re going to do. As long as you’re paying your bills with your money their is not anything your parents can do if they don’t like what you’re doing with the money you’re making. They may complain and while abou tit and make silly threats like mine did but they can’t do anything about it. Besides smiling and nodding another good way to handle them is to tell all your relatives about their behaviour. That tends to make them less likely to pull stuff like this if they know you’re going to tell everyone about it. Again most parents won’t have a problem with the apron strings but some will and you have to know how to deal with them.
and Parents, you have to let your adult children be adults and not meddle in their business. If they are paying their own bills and earning their own money you have to mind your own business. Otherwise your children might resent you and lose some respect. Eccept that they are going to do some things you’re not going to like but you still have no right to tell them how to spend or handle the money they make themselves. That’s just the way it is and you just have to deal with it. Tellng your child how to spend his own money will not teach him any financial responsibility and looks very stupid when you only treat one child this way and not the others. Trust me that really make you as a parent look foolish and your child will probably just ignore you anyway as they should. If they are spending your money that is different but you have no right to tell them how to spend the money they make themselves.
Now I do have other apron string stories but those two are the most blatent examples of my parents and the apron sting battles.
Talk to you later and have a good time at collage.

NOAA RADIOS!
Do you have a NOAA weather radio? They are just as important as smoke detectors. They save lives. I bought my Grandpa one the year of the Utica tornado. He was a WWII vet and not new technology happy. He loved knowing he could hit a button on his radio like a snooze button and hear the latest changes in weather. I showed him how to put his SAME code in so he received only watches and warnings for his town. He was hard of hearing and loved that he could hear the alarm when bad weather came to his town in Kansas. For 19.00 plus the cost of backup batteries, this can save your life or the life of those you love. I have no monetary connection to the manufacturers of the radios. First alert, Midland (my fav) and others. They can be found at Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Target, etc.

I guess MLB game day audio is available for PC's it is just hard to find on the website
Posted by Zman
An update to my post from yesterday where I siad that it appeared that MLB Gameday Audio was not available for PC's this year. Well I found out that indeed it is available but it is harder to find on the MLB website. Used to be on the top menu bar5 there was a section called audio and video. Well n ow that section is just called video. No listing for Gameday audio on the home page. In order to find the game say audio for pc's you have to go to the scoreboard and click the listen bar on the top of the score for each game. I was able to buy it there. Seems a little dumb to make people have to hunt for it like that. So indeed it is available for PC's and mac's you jut have to hunt for it.

MLB Game Day Audio Apparently not available for PC's this season
Posted by Zman
With Baseball season approaching I was logging on to MLB dot com to by the MLB Game Day Audio Package for my computer. I found out that this season it is only available for mobile devices. Not sure who'd bright idea that was but it is pretty stupid. Those of us who are unable to operate a smart phone due to lack of eye sight are getting left out and that seems a little unfair. Some of us also cannot afford the video package but can easily afford the 19 dollars for the audio package.
Plus those people who listen from work on their desk tops will not be able to listen to the games now without running the battery low on their phone. I just think Major League Baseball made a big mistake by not making the MLB game day audio package available for P C users this season. Hopefully somebody with half a brain will re think that move.

Some in Iowa want to vote for discrimination
posted by Z-man
There is a bill in the Iowa House to repeal civil unions and same sex marriage. Here's one young mans response to this bill on the floor of the Iowa House.
Zach Wahls, a 19-year-old University of Iowa student spoke about the strength of his family during a public forum on House Joint Resolution 6 in the Iowa House of Representatives. Wahls has two mothers, and came to oppose House Joint Resolution 6 which would end civil unions in Iowa.
I'm very proud of this young man. His moms must be very proud. I just don't get why some people want to vote for discrimination. All Americans gay or straight deserve the same rights and that includes marriage. Marriage is a civil right. You can go down to the court house and get married without even involving a church. If Steve Marrying Al or Susan marrying Alice bothers you that much than YOU have the problem. Contrary to what the far right wants you to velieve same sex marriage will not in anyway effect the institution of marriage. In the countries and states that have same sex marriage and civil unions there is not proof of any negative effects on marriage. Yet the far right keeps spreading their miss information. I guess they figure if they say it enough times it will become true. Sorry, does not work that way. This is one of the many reasons church and state need to be separate. So discriminatory legislation such as this does not even come up.

If you're one of the millions of people in the U S who applied for assistance through President Obama's home loan modification program and have received temporary approval you may owe back payments if you are denied permanent status. Also the credit companies count your reduces payments under the temporary status as being delinquent even though it was approved by your mortgage company so it still has a negative impact on your credit score. Also, most people who apply are not granted permanent status.

The Right to Protest Applies to all U S citizens, Not just the ones you agree with
Hello, been a long time sense I've blogged but I had to add my two cents to the issue of should protests at military funerals be banned debate. You have probably heard by now that Fred Phelps and his Westburo Baptist Church based in Topeka Kansas makes a habit of protesting military funerals. They claim that solders deaths are gods punishment for the U S supporting homosexuality. In my opinion the WBC are the most hateful vile individuals in this country. Worse than the KKK and other hate organizations. They twist religion and use it to promote their homophobia. Many are upset that this group dares to protest the funerals of our fallen men and women. Many think these protests should be banned. While I agree that protesting a funeral is one of the most disrespectful things one can do especially for the reason this group is doing so, the fact is they have a Constitutional right to peacefully assemble. this right applies to all U S citizens. even groups you don't like or agree with. The supreme court is not in the job of making decisions based on public opinion. They base decisions on weather they are Constitutional. If they based their decisions on what was popular, we might still have segregation in parts of the U S, the right for a woman to get an abortion may not be legal. It is not their job to rule in the favor of public opinion. They have to rule on weather something is constitutional. It may not be popular but it is the law. The law says they have a right to protest at funerals and as long as they don't create a disturbance and keep it peaceful, they have a right to do so. We don't get to pick which U S citizens get to protest and which ones don't. The law applies to all groups weather we like them or not. As I said, I think Fred Phelps is probably the most vile man in the U S but as a U S citizen even he has rights weather we like it or not. If you start taking away the rights of groups you don't like or agree with, pretty soon you may find your rights taken away as well.
